its touchy. for my friend john, it's preference. for some its a religion thing. like one of my friends is muslim, so she can only marry someone who is muslim. but thats religion. but still, if there were a white dude who was muslim, i dont think she could marry him. he'd have to be dark skinned like she is. i dont think its racism or preference in that case. just tradition
Seriously..If I thought it was racist for a chick to turn me down based on race, then every single Asian Chick I know is a Racist. Also all of the African American Girls. And the Latinos. Hell..even some of the Russian and German chicks. And I am of German Heritage! Sex, and love, is all about preference. Just because you are another Race does not mean people should Date you or All that Jazz.
If that where true then I would be racist against Blonds and Red Heads. Or short people. or Girls with bad laughs...

I tend to think of racism as being wholly indignant or directing unsubstantiated hate towards a person only because of their skin color. Theres no tolerance, no courtesy nor trust and certainly no compassion towards the person. In the scenario youre asking about, Im (perhaps naively) assuming that there is some level of closeness or friendship established between the two individuals. I feel that if it were racism, there would be zero amount of mutual kindness or comradery between them. It doesnt make the other persons decision less painful, but another persons preference is something all of us have very little control over.

I'm a white guy, and I'm really not that attracted to black women, or Asians. However, I am also not attracted to super tan blonds either. I like my red heads and brunettes with pale white skin. Just because I'm not attracted to dark skin color doesn't make me racist.
Well like .. Not into Utopian hippie or anything but even if you removed the physical color . You'd still have to deal with ethnicity they still have to get along with your culture and integrate into your community . So if they can over come the cultural barrier then it possible . I tend to agree with other people There the (I hate Racism ) Then there ( I prefer my own culture and people )
This isn't PC it's just that if Race is a determining factor in any decision it is by definition racism. Not my opinion it is solely fact. Anytime you judge someone positively or negatively because of race you are ascribing to racist ideology. I can only answer the question you posed and the key words were " based solely on race." By definition you answered your own question. I think some people will feel like I wrong for saying this and people should choose who they want to marry and I agree.
However people should understand what racism is. It's not being mean to blacks or not liking someone. Racism is when you ascribe to the ideology that race determines characteristics positive of negative. So when you favor some one based on race you are being a racist.
Now the real question is is it okay to be racist in this instant?
It's both. If it applies to all girls, like "I would never date black girls 'cause they're black." that's racist. If it's just that you don't happen to like a particular girl's skin color, it's shallow, but not really racist.
And there's nothing wrong with that. People should be allowed to use any categories they want to determine who they will or will not date. Even if you say "I'll never date black girls 'cause they're black." it's not the same level of racism as saying "All black people should die."
So yeah, it can be racism, but it's not really the extreme kind of racism that pisses everyone off, just the kind that makes you say "Oh well, all the better for my jungle fever!"

i feel its both, its a persons preferance based on a racist ideal. weather its because of how they were raised or the people the person knows of a certain race the wouldnt date, whatever the cause of the disinterest in a certain its still racist. its just not hateful in all cases. I myself am a "Halfrican"(half black, half white) and this question has been ever present in my life. growing up in a predominantly white town known for its racism i was often told "you cant date him hes white" or "i cant go out with you youre black". i was judged on my apperance alone. i have to admit to a mild predjudice of my own however, many of my friends have heard me say often that "i would never date a black guy, i only like white guys". i know im generalizing by only talking about blacks and whites but thats not the point. examining that claim i can honestly say that i was ignorant to think that. its not black guys i have a problem with, its the ones who fit the stereotypes. i despise people who act that way. so in that way i supose its technically not a racist idea to have a preference for people who arnt like that, but then again labeling those people as black is racist. so i guess it all depends on the circumstance. i dont know, thats just my thought. good question though.

Just like some people may prefer blue eyes to brown, or brown hair to blonde....some people chose race.
In that way, it's not racist.
But some people WON'T date interracially because racism.
It really depends on the situation.
Sometimes people, though they're attracted to someone of another race, may want to avoid complications that come with dating/marrying interracially.
Though when you're really in love, does any of that matter?
And that's my view.
