So, I went into this movie with pretty average expectations. I wasn't expecting a Dark Knight, or even an Ironman, rather just an entertaining movie that I wouldn't be laughing out loud at. Sadly, that wasn't the case.
And before I go any further, anyone who is a Deadpool fan should avoid this at all costs! You'll thank me later.
As far as the movie is concerned, from the very beginning, me and my buddy pegged this thing as something wholly terrible. And much to our disappointment, we pegged it correctly.
The intro, which took it's cues from the very well done "Origin" storyline became a bastardized version to fit within the realm of the film's threadbare plot. Now, I realize that you can't rely on the 40+ years of history as in the comics, but, and not to beat a dead horse, look at Dark Knight or Ironman especially. In his big screen debut he soared to unbelievable heights (no pun intended). Perhaps it was because Marvel had complete control over it, and knew their character in an out that made it successful. And perhaps Mr. Jackman and his cohorts have the most basic grasp of Wolverine and the Marvel universe that cause them to put forth such crap.
Now that I think about it, my biggest gripe with this movie (and I had a similar gripe with Watchmen) is that it was written like a comic, with gratuitous "posing" and shouting in lieu of anything substantive. Now don't get me wrong, I love comics and while they can be as silly as this movie was at times, they can get away with it because a) they have the 40+ years of history to play with and b) whatever they do, good, bad or otherwise, can be easily tweaked, adjusted, and mind-wiped from the canon. But as we've seen, comic movies are practically 30% hit and 70% miss. Had this movie premiered prior to Dark Knight and Ironman, my beefs would probably be less pervasive.
And I don't think Hugh Jackman is a bad actor, per se, but really enough is enough. You've spent 10 years of your life as Wolverine and have gotten progressively worse with each take. Remember way back to the first X-Men movie, when little Rogue finds him in that cold, desolate bar cage fighting? THAT was vintage Wolverine and Hugh Jackman at his absolute best! My advice to him would be to stick with compitent people who truly understand what they're doing (i.e. Christopher Nolan & Bryan Singer, although Superman Returns left a lot to be desired, but that's a topic for a different post).
What it came down to for me: the writing sucked, the acting sucked, the direction sucked, and many of the characters included where include for the sake of, well, inclusion. After the opening, there is a still-frame/stop-motion intro featuring Wolverine and Sabretooth in the various wars from the Civil War to Vietnam which was very well done. And for me, Liev Schrieber as Sabretooth was really what made this movie somewhat bearable.
And my apologies for any spelling/grammatical errors, as this is just a stream of conscious think. Okay, I'm done with my rant. What did you think of it??

To love is to risk not being loved in return. To hope is to risk pain. To try is to risk failure, but risk must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.
After that though...ugh.
I have yet to see Wolverine, but in prep for it I've been going with the "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst" attitude. I want it to be good, but know chances are it's gonna be poor. I'll report back after viewing.

Just say NO.
To Nekos.
----------------------------------
Bonecrusher hates Nekos.
The movie being bad doesn't surprise me. teh commercials really didn't look like it was a Wolvie movie at all. With all the extra characters for no reason it kinda looked more like it was gonna be X-Men 4. And I didn't care for X-Men 3 so...sorry no go.
Wolvie's history is thick enough that you don't need all those, extra, extra, extra characters.
I'll definitely be waiting to Netflix this bad boy! I'm sorry you had to pay to see it bro.
